Cheney: Malevolent Force

The L.A.Times nails it.

Amnesty Condemns U.S. for War on Terror Torture

"It condemned Bush's response to the 2001 attacks on U.S. cities,
saying it had resulted in an 'iconography of torture, cruelty and
degradation.'

Amnesty's report accused Washington of stepping onto a 'well-trodden
path of violating basic rights in the name of national security or
'military necessity'.'

'The war mentality the government has adopted has not been matched
with a commitment to the laws of war and it has discarded fundamental
human rights principles along the way,' it said.

At best, Washington was guilty of setting conditions for torture and
cruel treatment by lowering safeguards and failing to respond
adequately to allegations of abuse, it said.

At worst, it had authorized interrogation techniques which flouted its
international obligation to reject torture and ill-treatment under any
circumstances."

Bush (Inadvertently) Slams Bush

Hunter Thompson Endorses Kerry: Calls Bush the "Syphllis President"

"Four more years of George Bush will be like four more years of syphilis," the famed author said yesterday at a hastily called press conference near his home in Woody Creek, Colorado. "Only a fool or a sucker would vote for a dangerous loser like Bush," Dr. Thompson warned. "He hates everything we stand for, and he knows we will vote against him in November."

Thompson, long known for the eerie accuracy of his political instincts, went on to denounce Ralph Nader as "a worthless Judas Goat with no moral compass."

"I endorsed John Kerry a long time ago," he said, "and I will do everything in my power, short of roaming the streets with a meat hammer, to help him be the next President of the United States."

GOP Rocks the Minority Vote

Since when did the Onion start reporting hard news?

Yet Another Iraq Scandal

An article in yesterday's Wall Street Journal confirmed and expanded on
an NBC News report from March asserting that before the Iraq war,
administration officials called off a planned attack that might have
killed Abu Musab Zarqawi, the terrorist now blamed for much of the
mayhem in that country, in his camp.

Citing "military officials," the original NBC report explained that
the failure to go after Mr. Zarqawi was based on domestic politics:
"the administration feared destroying the terrorist camp in Iraq" - a
part of Iraq not controlled by Saddam Hussein - "could undermine its
case for war against Saddam." The Journal doesn't comment on this
explanation, but it does say that when NBC reported, correctly, that
Mr. Zarqawi had been targeted before the war, administration officials
denied it."

Karl Rove: Compassionate Conservative

"They had to roll Clinton out of the operating room and onto the campaign trail in order to basically help Kerry with the weaknesses he has among core Democratic constituencies," Rove said, taking liberties with his depiction of the former president as a near-invalid.

GOP Compassion Update

This is what Bush's communications director had to say about President Clinton's appearance with Senator Kerry today:

"The fact that John Kerry's going to have to roll him off the surgery table and on to the campaign trail demonstrates a revealing aspect, that he's under-performing in key parts of his own constituency."

Compassionate conservatism in action.
